Description
Delicious homemade churros coated in cinnamon sugar, perfect for snacking or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 inches deep)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine water, 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons oil. Bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat and immediately stir in the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a smooth ball forms.
- Let the dough cool for 5 minutes. Add the egg and beat with a spoon or mixer until fully incorporated and the dough is smooth.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy pot or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- While oil heats, mix ½ cup sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl for coating.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip (like Wilton 1M).
- Carefully pipe 2-3 inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting with kitchen shears. Fry in batches, 3-4 at a time, for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate for a minute.
- While still warm, roll the churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Serve immediately while warm and crispy.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is properly heated to ensure crispy churros.
- For extra flavor, you can add vanilla extract to the dough.
