Description

Delicious sausage and cheese filled rolls shaped like flowers, perfect for a snack or appetizer!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • to taste Salt
  • optional Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk with sugar and sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
  2. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg; mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl to rise for 1 hour.
  4. Cook sausage in a skillet until browned; drain excess fat.
  5. Punch down risen dough and divide into 12 pieces. Flatten each piece, add sausage and cheese in the center, pinch to seal.
  6. Shape into flowers and place on parchment-lined baking sheet; bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider mixing in some Italian seasoning with the sausage.
  • These rolls can be served warm or at room temperature.
