Description

A hearty and delicious classic lasagna recipe made with layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  4. While the sauce simmers, boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  6. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce. Place 3 noodles over the sauce, then spread one-third of the ricotta mixture on top.
  7. Sprinkle with one cup of mozzarella cheese. Repeat layering two more times, finishing with a layer of noodles and the remaining meat sauce on top.
  8. Finish by sprinkling the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
  9. Cover the baking dish loosely with tin foil to prevent burning.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers hold together when serving.

Notes

  • Allowing the lasagna to cool slightly before slicing ensures neat portions.
