Description

A hearty and flavorful classic beef chili, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bell peppers, diced (any color)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell peppers to the pot. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add Spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes to toast the spices.
  5. Add Tomatoes and Beans: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and kidney beans. Mix well.
  6. Add Broth: Stir in the beef broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  7. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes. Stir occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  8. Taste and Adjust: After simmering, taste and adjust seasoning as needed. You can add more spices or salt to your preference.
  9. Serve: Once the chili is thickened and flavorful, remove it from the heat.

Notes

  • This chili is versatile; you can add your favorite beans or adjust the spice level according to your taste.
  • Allow the chili to sit for a few hours or overnight for even better flavor.
